EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

BRIEF BACKGROUND;
Smart Investment Club was formed by a group of Twenty (20) students pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management (BESBM) at Makerere University Business School Nakawa Kampala. The Constitution that brought Smart Investment Club into existence was adopted on the 22nd day of APRIL 2013 and it was duly and officially registered by UGANDA REGISTRAR OF DOCUMENT on the 30th day of APRIL 2013, registered as NUMBER 5272 of 2013, under the Lawyer from AUTHER MWEBESA ADVOCATE.
The founder members of the club got encouraged after DFCU BANK had offered to promote Investment Clubs in Central Uganda by teaching and paying the legal registration of the Club Constitution.
CAPITAL MARKET AUTHORITY together with MAKERERE UNIVERSITY BUSINESS SCHOOL Department of Entrepreneurship corroborated with DFCU Bank and provided all the necessary guidance and supervision.
The Club is officially opened its offices on the 2nd day of June 2014 after having accumulated enough capital to foster its operation and after the registration of the TWO private limited liability Companies.
OUR PURPOSE
We exist to serve our members through encouraging a saving culture, skill development, to transform and nurture a new breed of investors socially, economically and technologically by availing them with, training needs, advisory services, business plan competition and financial services among others so as to maximize and capitalize the member opportunities.

OUR VISION
To be the East Africa’s largest Investment Club nurturing a new breed of investors, promoting economic use of idle resources into investment development in the region, providing necessary advisory services to our members with a view to encourage young investors, reduce ignorance, poverty, crime rates caused by idleness, unemployment and other unfavorable investment and economical conditions through skills training and enable entrepreneurship development, business among our member.

 OBJECTIVES
The main objectives for which the club was;
a)      To mobilize savings from its members by way of monthly contribution to the club fund and to encourage members to raise funds for savings in every possible and lawful way.
b)      To advance loans to members for productive purposes and to charge interest thereon at such rates and such terms as shall be agreed on from time to time and as laid out in these bye laws.
c)      To carry on, develop and improve any trade business whether manufacturing or otherwise which may seem to the club capable of being conveniently carried on in connection with its objectives herein or calculated directly or indirectly to enhance the value or render more profitable any of the club’s property, assets or rights.
d)     To invest the club funds in such ways as are financially profitable be it in Events Management and other related ventures and for this matter to engage in decorations, entertainment, catering services, salon services transport services, financial services among others

The club has got five directors currently, three of which are Ugandans and the other two include a Kenyan and South Sudanese. They include;

5.      MS. AYEN MAKER MADIT, SOUTH SUDANESE DIRECTOR,  Club’s Deputy General Secretary

MANAGEMENT
The club has employed a management team of thirty (30) members headed by MR. GEOFREY MATENDE who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Club from Makerere University Business School, MISS MIREMBE RECHEAL who is the Club’s General Manager also from Makerere University Business School and MR. MULONDO BILLY serving as the Club’s General Secretary from Kyambogo University. MR. SAMUEL IBANDA is the Club’s Internal Auditor, MR. YORAM BANYENZAKI is the Event Manager. Namuyenge Eseza, Finance Manager, Kampi Brenda, Human Resource Manager, MR. HUSSAIN DHIKUSOOKA, Operations Manager, WAMBOKA JEPHTHER Branch Manager Mbale to mention but a few.

The Management is under guidance of MUBS’ department of Entrepreneurship, Capital Market Authority and DFCU Bank Lugogo Branch where the Club operates its Bank Account Number.

FOUNDERS

The 20 founders of the Smart Investment Club includes; GEOFREY MATENDE, GATHEE  KARIUKI  SAMUEL, OKELLO JOHN BOSCO, NANZIRI HALIIMAH, KAKYO MARTHA, WASSWA PHILIP, NABWAMI CATHERINE, NAMYALO JACKLINE, KYALIGONZA  KARRIM, KISAKYE BRENDA, NALUGGWA BABRA, NAKASI DAMALIE, OMOLO CORNELIUS, MUJUNI ROBERT, AYEN MAKER MADIT, UWERA WINNIE, NADUNGA SYLIVIA, KITTATA PAUL, MASANGA JUDRE, JESSE VENANT.

However after being in operations, a number of members appreciated the management of the Club which was under Geofrey Matende as the Managing Director and the Chairman Board of Directors who employed expansionist strategies and the Club expanded from a mere concentration of Entrepreneurship students through massive publicity and awareness that attracted students from different programmes like Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administrations, Bachelor of Science in Finance to mention who felt it a necessity than an option to join the club after having appreciated the Club management and Directory. This included HAFSA NGOYAN a student offering a Bachelor of Business Administration, who after witnessing one of our meetings in the Guild boardroom, later had to join the Club in SEPTEMBER 2013.

Mr. Geofrey Matende however having aimed at making SMART INVESTMENT CLUB the largest Investment Club in the East African region, immediately towards the end of the first year of operation exported the investment idea of Smart investment Club to KYAMBONGO UNIVERSITY after contacting MR BILLY MULONDO in March 2014, a long term businessman and intimate friend met at Jinja Senior Secondary School at Advanced –Level.

Mr. Billy Mulondo though offering a course in Social Works and Social Administration, immediately appreciated the business plan and market strategy when he claimed to have found a good haven to which he should not miss take on. Billy together with University business colleague and Course mate Edwin, later joined together with Byakika Francis who of which made a team of THREE (3) of KYAMBOGO UNIVERSITY and spread the amazing investment opportunities to as far as friends at the neighboring Universities and Advanced Secondary schools who later pounded a base for the Club’s expansion and growth.

The Club Management also grew stronger when it was later joined by MS. RECHEAL MIREMBE who of all added plans and finance which strengthened the Club’s financial and Management position.
Recheal, having also been an entrepreneurship student at MUBS, was such an enterprising young lady who had personal investments in Event decorations, Cakes and bakery services, later resurrected the Founders dream of making the East Africa’s Event Management Company, to which plans to invest and implement the Event Management business plan were resumed. 

She is acknowledged to have founded the Mukono branch when she later exported the information to her friends and neighbours who later formed the Clubs first branch after Kampala Head office.

ACHIEVEMENT
Smart Investment Club has registered tremendous achievements when it’s held the drive behind the incorporation of the first Limited liability Company “MATENDE GENERAL INVESTMENTS (U) LIMITED” on the 30th April 2014. MGI (U) Limited is a general investment company dealing in general merchandise, carpentry, agriculture, poultry, diary livestock and stationary among others.
 It shall also be recognized to having mobilized and incorporated MATTEN EMPOWERMENT FINANCE LIMITED on the 2nd June 2014. MEF Limited is a money lending institution based in Kampala. The institution dream is run to a microfinance level has per the required share capital is US Dollar $ 200,000 , has laid an expansionist strategy to expand to up county in the next three years of operation with and estimated target of 100,000 Clients in three years.

The investment Club which only had one Internee Geofrey Matende in JUNE- JULY 2013, has registered an increasing demand and progress when it Recruited FIFTEEN (15)  internship Students who included THIRTEEN degree students from Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and TWO Diploma students from Management Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC).  These were given indifferent departments which included Marketing department, Finance department, Human resource department, Procurement department, Research and Development department, ICT department and Event Management department.

CLUB MISSION AND GOALS

Smart Investment Club, exist to nurture a new breed of investors who shall transform the East African Community into a business community to that of the European Community.
The Club which started with 20 members initially April 2013 went on expanding by the end of  April 2014 it had expanded to 30 Members.
However after the official opening of the Club offices in Nakawa, Kampala on the 2nd of June 2014, sources from the Club General Secretary Mr. Mulondo Billy confirmed to have fully registered Forty One (41) raising the membership to 71 by 30th June 2013. This was a surprise when the Club registered a great achievement to have more than doubled its membership in a series of 28 days.

The Club which only had Kampala Head office have opened up its branches in MUKONO, JINJA and MBALE as the first three of the ten (10) intended branches in the country by the end of next year 2015 to have been officially opened.
The seven other branches include Mbarara branch, Masaka branch, Arua branch, Gulu branch, Fortpotal Branch, Soroti Branch and Busia branch.

The Club management also has laid plans get the SMART INVESTMENT CLUB officially registered in the republic of Kenya, Nairobi and the Republic of South Sudan and the beginning of 2016 a time when Club’s County directors to the respective countries would have gotten enough experience from Club’s Headquarters in Kampala Uganda and expected to have fully accomplished their studies at Makerere University.

MR. SAMUEL KARUIKI GATHEE the Country director and a nationalist of the Republic of Kenya, MS. AYEN MAKER MADIT the County director and a nationalist of the Republic of South Sudan, and MR. JESSE VENANT a Founder member and a nationalist of the Republic of Tanzania, are our Key members and founders of Smart Investment Club. They are well prepared and ready to take the investment opportunities to their grassroots in their respect countries as to exploit our dreams to capturing the East African Community.

  1. Seed funding is funding that is required to start building the company. It is possible that some companies could if appropriate skip this funding phase, but seed capital is usually the capital that is required to get the basics for a start-up. Boris Goldstein Usually at seed stage, a company is not yet ready to open for business, and this funding is usually used to rent office space, real estate, equipment needed to produce the company's product or service.
